Distorted reality I For this work I used only one photo of waves in the water. This work is created by the following inspiration: There are ways to make this rather flat picture more interesting. And I got the insight how to enhance it. When the work was finished I wonderd: "what does this image express" Since I used distortion, I was thinking about how we see reality. We don't see reality directly; we create a model of reality in our mind. This model of reality is often distorted since it is highly computed by our brains and influenced by our likes and dislikes. That made me think of the lessons of martial arts master Shihan Té, who taught: "the map is not the system". If you think about social interactions and our view on it; we all have a different vision. Our view of the world is extensively influenced by all the social media which most of the times express a very biased message. Shihan té also thaught that we need to clear our inner mirror so that we can see reality sharper and more correct without bias. The image creates a calm, collected atmosphere which brings an energetic feeling in every room. |

All deserve(s) respect This photo is of some bush reflected in the water. The inspiration for this work came quickly as I saw that I could emphasize part of the leaves by giving them different colors. First I named this work "after Matisse". As he in his later years also cutout leaf like shapes and colored them, just as I did in this image. It took some work but when it was finished I realized it had a double meaning. The first meaning - the All deserves respect - is to look at the whole picture and see it as the universe which deserve respect since all mankind has a deep connection with nature. In our cities with all the technological comforts we forgot about that connection. But nature has a way of reminding us of the connection, mostly by natural disasters. The second meaning - all deserve respect - are the different colors of the shapes which represent different neurodivergent people. Our brains are all shaped by nature and some brains - just like mine - differ from the norm. Nature doesn't discrimiate and creates room for an enormous diversity of beings; animals, plants, fungi, birds, etc... Since we all belong to nature we best do as nature and respect all beings. Due to its muted colors it brings a contemplative mood in every room. |

Distorted reality II Since I hope to make series of one theme. I decided to put I after the first work: distorted reality. For some time no inspiration came. Then I saw this picture of reflections in the water and decided it could be the second version of distorted reality. Adding the pink band was a find but from that point on I was stuck. Only a few weeks later under time pressure I added the blue stripes. Could I have done better? Probably. I wait patiently for the inspiration of the third version. Inspiration is something that is not easy to control. I know it'll come sometime, but I never know when. And in the mean time I practice. The saying goes: When time is of the essence, go slow. This image brings an energetic atmosphere in every room. |

after Matisse I This work was created for a competion on Dutch television. The object of the competition was to create a work inspired by Matisse. I decided to recreate in my own style the work "Music" of Matisse. Just as Matisse in his later days used cutoutforms I cutout the forms for the spectaters from another work. I colored the faces of the forms as a reference to the fauvist style of Matisse. This work is not for sale. |
