Distorted reality I

For this work I used only one photo of waves in the water

This work is created by the following inspiration: Can I find ways to make this rather flat picture more interesting?
And I decided on another rectangle and some cut out forms in different colors
The cutout forms are the same but one is distorted just as the small rectangele.
Then I decided to add some shading to the forms, but it is not physically correct

Only after the work is complete do I think of the narrative to the image.
Since I used distortion, I was thinking about how we see reality. Our conception of reality is often distorted since we don't see reality directly.
We create an image of reality in our mind. That makes me think of the lessons of martial arts master Shihan Té.
Our image of reality is extensively influenced by all the media which most of the times express a (very) biased message.

All deserve(s) respect

This photo is of some bush reflected in the water.

The inspiration for this work came quickly as I saw that I could emphasize part of the leaves by giving them different colors.
First I named this work "after Matisse". As he in his later years also cutout leaf like shapes and colored them.
It took some work but when it was finished I realized it had a double meaning.
The first meaning is to look at the whole picture and see it as nature which deserve respect since all mankind has a deep connection with nature.
In our cities with all the technological comforts we forgot about our connection with nature. But nature has a way of reminding us, mostly by natural disasters
The second meaning are the different colors of the shapes which represent different neurodivergent people.
Since we all belong to nature; all beings, whatever there color, deserve respect.

Distorted reality II

Since I hope to make series of one theme. I decided to put I after the first work: distorted reality.
For some time no inspiration came. Then I saw this picture of reflections in the water and decided it could be the second version of distorted reality.
Adding the pink band was a find but from that point on I was stuck. Only a few weeks later under time pressure I added the blue stripes.
Could I have done better? Probably. I wait patiently for the inspiration of the third version.
Inspiration is something that is not easy to control. I know it'll come sometime, but I never know when.
And in the mean time I practice. The saying goes: When time is of the essence, go slow.

after Matisse I

This work was created for a competion on Dutch television. The object of the competition was to create a work inspired by Matisse.
I decided to recreate in my own style the work "Music" of Matisse.
Just as Matisse in his later days used cutoutforms I cutout the forms for the spectaters from another work.
I colored the faces of the forms as a reference to the fauvist style of Matisse.

three more conceptual works will be online soon. They will be more text based instructions for projects that others could help to realize.
